Proclamation Day was held on March 15th when we raised the Tricolour outside the school. The youngest and eldest pupil in the school raised the flag together. Children that had taken part in the "Triumph of All Sorts" pageant the previous week dressed up in their 1916 costumes and read the proclamation. Children from 3rd to sixth played Amhrán na bhFiann and all pupils joined in the singing.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising. Many schools across Ireland are taking part in activities in preparation for this important occasion.

In our school, children from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class are taking part in a drama called ‘Triumph of All Sorts’.

We are all getting involved in the play and many of us have received roles. We enjoy spending time rehearsing our lines and learning how to act. There will be lots of music and dance involved in the play. Everybody will be dressing up in old fashioned clothes that were worn by the people in these times.

The teachers in our school are putting a lot of hard work into the drama to make sure that it is enjoyable for everyone. We have learned a lot about life back in 1916. We can’t wait to perform and we hope to see you all there for a great night.

The Junior Infant Clothes Store – Aistear

For January, our Aistear theme is ‘The Clothes Store’. The children have created their own small shop, which currently stocks a large selection of scarves and hats and well as dresses, jumpers and other accessories. As it is January, they decided that many of their items are on sale. They have been taking turns being the shopkeepers but also offer a personal shopping experience if you are unsure what exactly would best suit you. They have been enjoying trying on all of their outfits when the shop isn’t too busy.

Irish Dancing

All children in the school learn Irish Dancing. Every Friday, we have lessons with Ms. Mulcahy. Every year, we enter the Comhairle na Mumhan schools Munster dancing competition. This is a competition for children who learn dancing in school and is attended by children in schools around Munster that are in 1st - 6th class. We have been the overall champions in this competition for the past three years!

Children from 3rd to 6th class will be performing an Easter 1916 pageant in the upcoming concert. All are busy finding props, learning lines, practicing songs, music and dance.
